Hindolee Datta is a PhD student at the Department of Anthropology at the University of Chicago. Their research explores language shifts among Adivasi communities in Eastern India, examining how development politics, migration and climate change shape linguistic practices and cultural identities. They are particularly interested in how young people in these communities navigate shifting landscapes, education, mobility, and evolving forms of knowledge transmission and cultural expression.
Hindolee holds a BA from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University, and an MA in Linguistics from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Prior to the PhD, they worked with several organisations investigating the status of education of children from marginalised communities and multilingual education practices. They are also involved with civil-society groups engaged in socio-political movements, theatre and the arts in India.
Their writing has appeared in The Telegraph India and Economic and Political Weekly Engage, including articles and book reviews.
