Daniel Qicheng Yao is a Ph.D. student in Anthropology at the University of Chicago. He holds a BA in Media, Culture, Communication and Art History from New York University. His past research examines how non-fungible token (NFT) companies/platforms, influencers, and players enregister this technology in China by drawing on various spatiotemporal framings (or chronotopes). His digital ethnography illustrates how different framings entail alignment with different value regimes and participation frameworks. Iterations of his honors thesis have been presented at conferences and received the top student paper award in the language and social interaction division of International Communication Association. For future research, he is interested in the applications of blockchain technologies and how local communities affectively engage with them.
