On December 1st, the University of Chicago will celebrate Giving Tuesday 2020, a 24-hour outpouring of global generosity. This year, units from across the University will unite under the theme of Community Impact as they garner support for programs and initiatives committed to social justice, access, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
We hope you will join the Division of the Social Sciences in supporting the W. Allison Davis Research Award on Giving Tuesday. This award provides UChicago doctoral students with funding, mentorship and a prestigious opportunity to participate at the forthcoming W. Allison Davis Symposium as part of a University-wide initiative commemorating Professor W. Allison Davis, PhD’42 (1902-1983). We are grateful to have received early support for these awards from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which has helped expose awardees to an enriched experience of the University’s intellectual community, providing rigorous training grounds and positioning them for successful careers.
To sustain this award and ensure funding for another group of talented young scholars in 2021-22, we aim to garner $100,000+ by March 1, 2021. Giving Tuesday is the perfect opportunity for our community to rally together and move the needle toward achieving this goal. Please mark your calendars – The Giving Tuesday website will go live and begin accepting donations on December 1st!
