Celebrating Michael Silverstein
On Saturday, October 22, friends, family, and colleagues gathered at Rockefeller Chapel to honor the life and extraordinary career of Professor Michael Silverstein, a vital force in the intellectual life of the department from 1971 to 2020. Michael's erudition, sense of humor, charismatic teaching, and love of substantive debate was legendary. His work transformed our understanding of language structure, sociolinguistics, and semiotics. Through his iconic publications and generations of students, Michael's influence will be with us for a long time to come.
The memorial at Rockefeller Chapel was live-streamed on Zoom and the recording can be seen here.
