Alumna Maira Hayat wins the 2020 Pirzada Dissertation Prize in Pakistan Studies awarded by the Institute for South Asia Studies at UC Berkeley. Her dissertation is entitled "Ecologies of Water Governance in Pakistan: The Colony, the Corporation and the Contemporary" and her advisor is William T. S. Mazzarella.
 

The Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada Endowment, established by Rafat Pirzada and his wife, Amna Jaffer, and named after Rafat Pirzada’s father, Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada on the occasion of his 90th birthday, supports the Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada Dissertation Prize on Pakistan, an annual dissertation prize for the best work in the humanities, social sciences, law, or public health on Pakistan, the region that is Pakistan, or things to do with Pakistan. Dissertations written in English from any accredited North American or European university are eligible.
