Amahl Bishara

(PhD, New York University 2006) Mellon Postdoctoral Instructor in Anthropology and of the Social Sciences in the College, does research analyzing the role of Palestinian journalists and other "media workers" (including translators, producers, reporters, stringers and photojournalists, and also extending to positions in related fields, like taxi drivers, tour guides, government officials, activists, and victims, who all deal with international journalists) in the production of U.S. news about Palestinians in the West Bank. The research has two central concerns: the practices of Palestinian journalists, and the implications of international journalism's pronounced presence for Palestinian society.
